about

At one point in my life, I was in a perfect rebound relationship with a very nice man who was very much the wrong man for me. When we finally broke up, because we were really just done with each other and ready to move on, another friend offered to come sit with me for a while. “That's ok,” I declined. “I'm strong enough now to cry alone.”

Another song was born. The rest of this one came to me while waiting in the carpool line to pick up my son from elementary school. When I taught it to Randon, I asked him to thump on the guitar. I'd seen other people do this somewhere. I'm lucky that he is patient enough to figure out what I'm asking for even when I don't have the musical vocabulary to explain it.

lyrics

I'm tired of leaning on my friends

I'm ready for my sadness to end
I wanna feel the way that life's supposed to be
I wanna feel ok instead of pretend

I need some solo time for a while
To find myself and reasons to smile
I appreciate the help you tried to give me
When I was down you went the extra mile

But I'm strong enough now to cry alone
I think it's time for you to go home
I love that you care and I'm glad you were there
But I'm strong enough now to cry alone

It's time to build a new life for me
And learn to enjoy alone willingly
It's time to embrace the adventure
Instead of feelin' like a lost ship at sea

'Cause I'm strong enough now to cry alone
I think it's time for me to go roam
I love what we shared and I'm glad you were there
But I'm strong enough now to cry alone

And when I'm healed and whole again
I won't forget how you helped me mend
How you helped me find strength within myself
Maybe someday you'll lean on me, friend

Til you're strong enough to cry alone
Til you say it's time for me to go home
I'll be there and you know I'll care
Til you're strong enough to cry alone
